The Election is Tuesday in IL-05 and I've been feeding you some information about the campaign (specifically on the nut running against Quigley) but I realized that I had not formally endorsed Mike Quigley for Congress. I'd like to take the time to do so now, knowing that my prior support already demonstrated that I thought him the best choice for the job.
I think the Chicago Tribune said it best when they said "Quigley has done exhaustive work on how county government could provide better health care and other services to people in far more efficient and cost-effective ways." As a progressive I am deeply concerned with providing benefits to taxpayers and making sure those benefits are cost-effective. Though his actions at the Cook County Board Mike Quigley has proven that he's just as concerned.
Mike Quigley has proven, time and again, that he understands that the best way to govern is to first look at real research and scientific findings before making decisions that impact peoples lives.
When I first covered IL-05, the day Mike Quigley won the Democratic Primary I pointed out the difference between Quigley and the prior Members of Congress from IL-05. Mike Quigley isn't some party hack, picked by the Democratic Party Machine. He was picked in rebellion, voters opposed the party ward bosses to choose him. The Sun Times reported on March 4th that Quigley win of the Democratic nomination humiliated the ward bosses. Isn't it time that we do that too?
Look, we know that Tuesday's election is almost a foregone conclusion, Mike Quigley will win. But he can't win without our continued support. That's why we need to get the voters of IL-05 out to the polls Tuesday. We can't break the Undemocratic Party Machine unless we can elect officials not under their sway.
Mike Quigley has already proven he's strong enough to stand up to the Machine and avoid being both a party hack and another corrupt politician out of Chicago. He's someone we need in Congress, someone who'll fight for the rights of the middle class and work to bring equal opportunity to all Americans. It is because of this that I heartily endorse Mike Quigley for Congress.
